A few statistics from the Bay City, OR to Bremerton, WA trek:
211 miles over three days
Total riding time: 15 hours
Avg speed: 14.3mph
Max speed: 35mph
Total climbing: 3800'
One flat tire, on mile 206 of 211
A few observations:
Horses could care less about cyclists, cows are generally intrigued
Washington road shoulders seem wider than Oregon's
Wind can blow in all directions on the same day
Tendonitis in the knees can begin on day two
Rear end pain generally starts about mile 50 each day
Riding down an empty country road is a beautiful and peaceful experience
Until a semi-truck comes by
Would I do something like this again? Maybe.......we'll see how the knees recover. Apparently everything I read was true, you should increase your mileage a little slower. I guess this was too many miles for me this early in the season. So I hope to resume STP training soon. That will be roughly this same distance in one day. So hey....there will be no day two knee pain!
